A mobile home may not be an ordinary house, but that doesn’t make it less of a home than others. It’s still a place where homeowners lay their heads, unwind, and escape from the outside world. Any home is a sanctuary; therefore, a space should reflect that fact. You don’t need to struggle with your property’s look and presence. Check out these tips for customizing and decorating your mobile home.
Create Kitchen Space
Don’t let the structure of a mobile home stop you from creating space—especially in areas you need it most. The triangular model is common for kitchens in mobile homes. On one side, there will be the sink, stove, and microwave. On the other end is the refrigerator.
Above the stove and sink will likely be the kitchen cabinets. The current structure probably has a space between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling. Eliminate that space by installing elongated cabinets. More cabinet space is never a bad thing, especially in a smaller kitchen. Longer cabinets also give the illusion the kitchen is larger than its actual size.
Brighten Every Room
Every room should have at least three to four light sources. A dark and cramped room doesn’t contribute to the feel of a mobile home. Installing more windows is an excellent option for bringing more light indoors. If you plan to incorporate some lamps instead, make sure they don’t block the flow of traffic.
There are ten types of lighting all homeowners can easily install themselves:
- Ceiling lights
- Task lighting
- Pendant lights
- Table lamps
- Wall sconces
- Uplighting
- Spotlighting
- Recessed lighting
- Track lighting
- Floor lamps
If you choose one design or type for a room, try and keep that style consistent for the other areas of the house. You don’t want things to look confusing or congested.
Replace the Old
Out with the old and in with the new! A lot of mobile homes receive upgrades over the years to appear more appealing and keep with the times. However, there are still some homes that need these upgrades. Replace old appliances wherever you see them.
Don’t subject yourself to less-than-ideal features in your home. Replace the tub in your mobile home and any other features in the bathroom that are outdated. The replacement process doesn’t have to be overly complicated either, especially if you purchase simple-to-install replacement features.
Make It Symmetrical
Symmetry is the name of the game in small spaces. There’s a lot of beauty in symmetry, especially when it involves a home. When you start to add furniture to your home, whether through lighting fixtures, paintings, or mirrors, make sure that all nearby pieces are the same height.
For example, a painting should match the height of the adjacent shelving unit. You also want to consider furniture pieces that will sit parallel from each other when making purchases. The symmetry creates balance in your home and accentuates all the little features.
Give your domain some love. Customize and decorate your mobile home so that it accurately depicts your personality and feels like home.
