I wanted to love this so much because the convenience of it was so appealing. But honestly, this tool has no power. Even with a fully charged battery, this sander doesn't have enough power to rough sand pine. I use it to clean up and fine sand finish pine boards. It does okay with fine sanding, but there's definitely not enough power to clean up the wood and even out spots. It kills the battery super quick so we end up always having to switch out batteries.
Your going to be disappointed if you think this sander has the power of 110 volt sander.I sand floors for living and thought the 20v would be a lot more powerful not so much .Great for touch ups but kills 5amp battery in about 15 minutes. If your going to do a lot of sanding don't buy this sander.
I have used this for a few MAJOR projects so far. But crawling under a skiboat and sanding it down for painting is a LOT nicer not to be tripping over a long extension cord. The battery life is just fine for my needs. But I have a stack of dewalt batteries but have found that a 4amp hour battery works well, tool to battery weight balance. The variable control know is REALLY nice to have. Sometimes you don't want or NEED a sander at full power when your sanding. So that is a nice plus as well from my old cordless sander. I won't sell my corded dewalt sander yet but I can't image a time that I will use it moving forward. One interesting thing to note is that it has a different hole pattern to my corded Dewat 5" orbital sander. Only 2 holes line up with my current pads for dust extraction. Not a deal breaker but odd. The velcro pad of my old sanding disks match the size just right but the holes just don't line up. Other than that, I would rate this thing as a 5 start tool.
Jjust put this unit through a weekend work out mortising and sanding new doors for a house remodel. I powered the unit with a Dewalt 5ah battery. The sander cruised all weekend without a battery change. We are also using it with Dewalt's quick change fitting and a Rigid shop vac to sand drywall. This tool is a time saver and sands just a well as the corded version (which we also own). We recommend.
I needed to sand a 10X12 deck floor that was in bad shape. It had suffered a bad stain job a few years back and needed more than pressure washing to get it right. The sander was very quiet and I could easily hear my music from a Bluetooth speaker while sanding my deck. I ran the sander at 3 1/2 speed and was able to complete 3/4 of the deck using a single 6ah battery. After swapping to a second 6ah battery I was able to complete the deck and sand about 60 feet of hand rails using only half of that battery. Everything about this sander is easy....changing the sanding disk, emptying the dust bag and operation are simple and there is no cord management. I had no hand fatigue or arm soreness from using this sander for hours.
Random orbit sander, freedom of cordless, brushless, DeWalt, replaceable velcro pad, selectable speeds, (some) vacuum hose compatible, lightweight, compact, easy to maneuver, and good battery runtimes. What else can I say? If you like getting into woodworking projects now and then or are a diy guy/gal, this is a great tool to add to your collection. Everyone needs to sand something down at some point in their lives! Ok, maybe an exaggeration, but still, why not!? I am loving mine so far!! :):D

I need a sander infrequently enough that I try to not sand as much as I should simply because I hate waging cords around. with this sander I can get the work done with no fuss at all. it will pull a small battery down pretty quick though. Id probly get a 4 or 5 hr battery if I was going to dedicate one just for the sander and planned on sanding a lot. but a 2 hr has done most everything I needed and then some so far and its lighter than the bigger battery's. something to keep in mind I guess. the quick attach pad is handy there are tons of sanding discs out there in all price ranges so far all I have used are excellent. I recommend this sander.
Wonderful if you do a lot of sanding. Great not to have a power cord bothering you. I prefer using it with a small 2.0 Ah battery for it to be light and well balanced. It lasts about 20 minutes at 80% speed which is plenty of time for most small jobs. The variable speed setting, the rubberised grip, the ergonomy are amazing. It is a little less loud than electric ones but as powerful. A great tool and a great buy. There is only one flaw, it is too expensive for what it is. Electric ones are between 20$ and 50$ so this would be reasonably priced at 99$, not 149$. Buy if you do a lot of sanding as I do...
4.0 out of 5 starsPerforms well, comfortable to use, portable freedom is awesome!

I've got a large dewalt tool collection, so naturally when I needed a sander I went for this one. After using it for a couple projects I've come up with some positives and negatives.
Positives: 1. Easy to hang onto 2. Love the variable speed 3. Well balanced 4. Not too loud 5. Sands very well
Negatives 1. It does eat batteries quicker than I expected. I fully drained a 2.0 AH 70% of the way through sanding a cutting board. I'd I had to guess I'd say it lasted 20 minutes. 2. It doesnt collect as much dust in the bag as I'd like 3. You can't hook it up to a dust collection machine without modifications.
Overall I do love the sander. I've got tons of batteries, so battery life for me doesn't matter. It performs very well, and looks nice. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. The only annoyance is having to modify it so I can hook it up to my shop vac.
I don't know how to review something that has change the way that I send in my shop so dramatically as this little whore of this random orbit sander. I have several corded versions of this type sander but 99% of the time I find myself reaching for this little beauty.
Several previous reviews had me very leery of the battery life generation under heavy and continue with use and I'm not sure exactly what their issues were. But indeed they use I find that a two and our standard battery would easily give me an hour plus of sanding mouldings doors and flat surfaces if I know I'm going to be using it for a really extended period of time or away from the shop it's really simple I take a couple of five amp hour batteries and I can easily sand for a couple of days is it light on the variable speed is an absolute dream and the dust collection works extremely well in horizontal and vertical applications the only drawback that I've been able to find is in the use of a heavy large 6 Ah power 20 V battery, it does change the balance of the tool, but nothing that a few minutes a different hand position can't change or fix I absolutely love this little sander and have bought three additional Sanders for the rest of the shop to use.
4.0 out of 5 starsNice tool but not very ergonomic

You can see feel the normal amazing DeWalt quality in this unit, and it seems every bit as powerful and rugged as its corded counterpart (one of which I have been using fairly consistently for over a decade) - however - if you use a larger battery (i.e. 5ah) on this sander it becomes seriously out of balance, and even with a thinner battery it feels overly heavy and tends toward in one direction in balance. I haven't taken on a large project with the unit yet, but I have found suprisingly awkward to hold in my quick testing
4.0 out of 5 starsCordless makes it so much easier, get a big (ah) enough battery

I love the DeWalt 20v cordless product line and bought this (without battery) as my corded one I lent to a friend has not been heard from in months. Was using with a very light 1.5ah battery pair we have from an impact drill but had to order a bigger battery as we were changing it frequently. As an example, painted stairs that are probably over 35 years old and have many many coats to remove, burned through one battery after a full stair. This was latex paint too (tested) and we did not want to use chemicals. Has been a great addition to our DeWalt collection.
2.0 out of 5 starsOk for small tasks. Stay away for large

Good product. Not exceptional. Dust collection is super lacking. Hardly picks up any of the dust made. Mostly just pushes the dust around. I bought the dewalt adapters (you need 2 of them) to attach to a shop vac and that does collect all the dust. However you end up with about 10" of rigid un bendable plastic coming out of the sander, which makes it really hard to keep the sander flat on the work piece. Dewalt really needs to deal with this.
Battery life isn't what was other reviews claimed it to be. I have all newer batteries and I could only get about 40 minutes out of a 5ah battery. The 2ah batteries were 15 minutes, tops.
All in all its nice to not be tethered to an electrical outlet, and for small tasks I'll definitely keep it around but don't go getting rid of a good 120v sander to buy this one.
Works well as expected. Typical Dewalt quality. I use 2ah batteries to keep the weight down. When hooked up to a shop vacuum it has very little dust left over. Love it. Bought the 9000 adapter to hook the hose up for a tight seal. Does the job but the adapter is pricey.
I've used this sander many times before this review, and it works great. Sanded down an old, hard cedar barn door and it turned out great. Batteries hold up well considering the use I put it through.
5.0 out of 5 starsBest palm sander I have ever used.

This thing is a game changer. Battery life isn’t an issue as it last longer than it takes to recharge a second battery. Lots of power and no cord to get tangled up or limit your reach. Brushless motor is quiter than the corded equivalents. Do yourself a favour and get one.
It's a great tool big not for big jobs because with the battery this weighs a lot and it will put strain on your whole upper body. It's perfect for small jobs when you don't have an extension cord. For big jobs, use a pneumatic one as they weigh nothing or get a corded dewalt sander. Also please note that they are easier to hold with 2ah batteries instead of the bigger ones.
I really like how this design helps to keep the dust down by creating enough suction through the dust holes in the sanding pad and pushing the dust through the bag. Much better than my other plug in sander.
The battery life is great and I like the way the sand paper wears evenly around the pad to give more use out of each sand paper pad.
Veright of of the box with no battery. Easy to hand but when I put a 4MA on it, the changed changed. Thei thing is fatiguing. The unit itself is grate, however you may want to use a lower MA battery. Dust collection is pretty darn good as well. If I had to redo things, I'd go with chorded version just because of the weight after a batter is added
This thing is unreal. I hate cords. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. One hand on the cord and one hand on the sander. It was a funny adjustment to have a free hand while sanding
